The US and UK Governments are the world’s largest purchasers and sellers of military aviation and defense manufactured products, technology and services. There has been considerable complementary investment by the aviation and defense industries of both countries, and this is expected to continue. The business activity extends down from the primes to the subcontract tiers of supply. A healthy industry is critical to the competitive future of both countries. However, the capital intensity and the long business cycles required for aerospace programs are such that the total number of programs has been reduced considerably. Key decisions are approaching that will have long term ramifications. The Conference will provide the forum for a thorough examination of the issues important to both government and industry.
Topics include trends, threats and opportunities that globalization and protectionism, security issues and government budgets bring and how they impact the supply chain for planning and project prioritization. The latest international initiatives to attract, train and retain aviation, space and defense manufacturing skills in advanced economies will be shared. The importance of competitiveness and the advancement of technology in both countries will be discussed. Case studies of how US and UK manufacturing can help itself to grow and prosper in the face of off-shoring and retain skills at home. Examples of successful international partnering by smaller and medium sized companies, including participating in offshore supplier projects, will be presented.
The Conference is supported by both the US and UK governments through the Department of Defense and Ministry of Defense. Representatives from these and other government departments will be presenting as will be industry leaders from both countries.
